Who is table tennis for?
For your first game, learn the serve and how to return the ball after one bounce on the table. Start by keeping a rally going without scoring. As your confidence grows, practise placing shots around the table and playing short games.
How do you play table tennis?
In table tennis, players use bats to hit the ball onto the other side of the table so that their opponents cannot return it correctly. Play singles or doubles.
- the ball must bounce on your opponent's side,
- each player hits the ball after one bounce on their side,
- score when your opponent fails to return the ball or makes an error,
- each rally starts with a serve from behind the end line of the table,
- on a serve, the ball must bounce first on the server's side and then on the opponent's side,
- for casual play, simplify the rules and play without keeping a formal score.
Table tennis scoring
Games are played to 11 points with a lead of at least two. Service changes every two points, then every point from 10-all. Agree how many games are needed to win the match before starting.
What should I bring for table tennis?
